About Australia Awards
The Australian Government currently invests over $200 million each year in international scholarships which, at any time, support around 5,000 international students, researchers and professionals to study in Australia and for Australians to study, research and undertake professional development overseas.
The Australia Awards will bring together Australian scholarship programs run by the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR) and the Australian Agency for International Development (AusAID) under a single recognisable brand.
The Australia Awards initiative will ensure Australian scholarships are consolidated, better branded, and delivered to support Australia's long term interests.
The Australia Awards initiative will support Australia Award recipients to maintain long term links to Australia through a strong alumni program.
The Australia Awards will be supported by a high profile Board which will provide expert advice to Government Ministers on how the scholarship program can meet Australia's long-term interests. The Board will be supported by a Secretariat based at the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
The Australia Awards will showcase Australia's cutting-edge capabilities in the education sector, which includes eight of the world's top 100 universities, and demonstrate Australia's ongoing commitment to building closer and enduring ties with our region and beyond.
